finall assignment!!

All good things come to an end right!!! this is my final post for creative studies..it has been an increadible and exciting journey..I have been working on the last and final assignment with my group members. for this final assignment we had to work with the topic "creativity in the context of MMU". This is a very broad topic, and we had to come up with a less broad topic using this theme. My group members were Liz, Ikah, Rehan and the only boy in our group, Naz.

Here u can see only the girls, but we are very glad that there was at least one boy to balance out things ..lol.
Our first consultation was with Mr.Halim, we were discussing about our first plan by making the project about creativity as the different sides of media innovation, which meant that we were planning to talk creativity in the side of media innovation, because media innovation is one of the major under management's faculty but it is pretty different than any other management's major. Well, we failed to do so..because we didnt get much suport from Mr.Halim nor Mr.Radzi. And we were very much confused as to what to do, so when we met at the next meeting we started brain storming for a new idea. we came up with ideas like ;

  • A different side of media innovation
  • Media innovation in Management
  • Creativity in Fom
  • Creative context between multimedia and IT
  • Engineers, creative or just scientists
  • creativity and culture in MMU
And we chose the last topic, Culture and creativity in MMU, because here in this university there is a diverse culture, we have people from many different parts of the world all living together and learning something new about each other. Creativity and culture goes together like white on rice!! Because we are soo different, when we come together and brainstorm ideas we get the most unusual, wierd and creative idea in the end.

Below are our two mind maps which we made when we were in the process of choosing our idea and sculpting it.  We made our mind maps using iMindMap software..Tony Buzan's software. We actually have the picture for the mind map that we drew, but it wasn't too nice since none of us are really good in drawing :D
The first mind map is the one for " CREATIVITY IN THE CONTEXT OF MMU"

The following mind map is a focus logical mind map of our topic. "CULTURE"

After that, our group leader, Liz, divided the parts for the essay of the topic between us. And here is our essay when we showed it on our presentation day, the title is " Diversity Of Culture In Multimedia University "

From the essay, we had to figure out a design concept.Design Concept is a short sentence which is catchy and represent our essay and topic, so it helped us to keep right in the track.
After brainstorming for 2 hours at the meeting! We chose a really catchy design concept,
 " Culture!! Your Symbol ".
Continue to the next step, we had to choose one method that we had been taught in the class to make a final artwork. IM hoping that you guys still remember the methods that i talked about, we had to choose between 3 methods
  1. Random word/image association
  2. Associated mind mapping
  3. juxtaposition
And we chose to use the random word/ image association, yes i know this was very risky of us as this method is the hardest ever to understand and use, bet we knew we could do it. :-)
The image we chose was shirt, a t-shirt. From the image we chose the different elements of a t-shirt, which are color, size, style, brand, material, painting, to come up with our design concept which is " CULTURE YOUR SYMBOL "

Explanations :

a. Life can be dull, if there’s only one
color. Same goes to languages, it brings us varieties.

Language

b. Does
size reflect where you are coming from?

Nationality

c.
Style spices your life.

Dress style

d. Your first move is how people
brand you.

Attitude

e. We are different because we have developed by different
materials.

Food

f. Good
painting attracts, bad printing destruct.

Perception
We consulted to Mr.Halim up to this point, and we got a bit feeling that he wanted us to change something and improve our work, but we didnt have too much ideas what to do anymore, and anyway..he said we did good so far. :)
So, we proceeded to the last step, which was a final artwork. It will be a video.

and now...VOILA!!!! our final work...our awesome fabulous video!!!

AND THIS IS IT!!! I have enjoyed mt creative studies subject more than anything...Just because this is the end of the road for this class doesnt mean it is the end of the road for my creativity.. This is only the beggining, the best is yet to come.. I enjoyed working with my group mates very much and believe that this is the start of a very good friendship between all of us. We are chained together by chains of creativity!!!
Below is just a few pictures of our journey through out this whole experience

THANK YOU TO EVERY ONE WHO BARED WITNESS TO ME BLOG EACH AND EVERY BLOG!!! TILL NEXT TIME.... GOOD BYE !! CIAO !!!  GOSIAME !!  وداعاً !! AUREVOIR !!!  Selamat tinggal!!!

Juxtaposition

HAPPINESS...

Happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts
Just like knowing the right time depends on the quality of your clock
If you never know what time it is
Then you will never be able to things you need to do the time you need to do them
Thus if the quality of  your thoughts does not please you
You will never be able to reach the dream that every single human being is chasing
Being happy

PAIN IS LOVE

They say pain is love
The more you love
The more likely it is to get hurt
Loving the wrong person always ends in pain

MAN AND WOMAN

Man and woman are like sheep of different colours
They are different in many ways
The way they think
The way they look
The way they do what they do
But in the end they are just two creatures of the same species in different coates

Juxtaposition

Below are more examples of how we can compare a picture that would otherwise have no connection with a certain topic but still make it work good.

LIFE..

Life is like a glimpse of light
At first it is not there
Then it glows strongly in different forms and ways
Until it can not glow anymore
Then all that is left is darkness
Loneliness....Stillness
So one should live their life to the greatest
Before the light goes out
Before the darkness engulfs you...

PAIN...

Opening your heart is like eating ice cream
You know that it might hurt in the end
Sometimes you feel blue
Sometimes you feel good
Something which gives you so much pleaseure
Can also give you so much pain
In the end the pain goes away...only numbness remains
All that is left is the cold around the heart..

LOVE...

Love is like a hot, steamy cup of coffee
In the beginning it is hot, steamy and passionate
It is hard to handdle and comprehend
You have to go at it with great care and precausion
As time goes on
It cools off, becomes much more easier to handle
And more comfortable
Even though what used to be hot became cool
It does not mean its any less good

LOVE...

A woman in love is like a woman with a credit card
She will literally lose her mind if she does not know how to deal with it
Its exciting, enticing and addictive
It comes with problems and responsibilities
But she will still get excited at the site of a new credit card
Just as she will get excited when she falls in love

MEN against WOMEN

The next exercise is filled with quiet a bit of contravention...we all know that if we compare women and men it would be an endless debate..the problem is men always blame women for all their problems, so naturally the women will also blame the men.. below are a few pictures i found interesting when it comes to this issue..from a women's point of view of course...

Do you agree with this, personally i am not taking any sides.. :-)

Here i am comparing mortar and pestle to a man

Men are just like mortar and pestle
They are good for some things
But in the end easily replaced

Men are like chilli
They think they are hard and strong
But can be easily crushed and softened
Just like chilli in a mortar and pestle

We would never truly know who is right and who is wrong, because there is no human being who is both man and woman... so maybe the picture below sheds a bit of light

JUXTAPOSITION

Exercise 2
This exercise is all about metaphor, making words out of a picture.
We were supposed to choose 2 pictures of two different animals which we feel wont make a good merger, the two animals we chose must not be able to exist if put together to make one animal. There are animals which could possibly exist if they were to be put together, like for example the cartoons catdog,

or a mermaid,

or the hourseman,

the animals we choose must absolutely no doubt be unable to exist if put together.
I chose the animals fish and bird, the head of a fish and body of a bird ,the fishbird could never exist is it was an animal because a bird can not swim, so if put in the water it wont be able to survive, and a fish can not breath out of water, so it would definitely die.

Exercise 2
On this exercise, we must make a statement about love comparing it to chilli..

This exercise shows how much you can take something which completely could not define a certain thing or feeling, like love, and make it work for you in a creative word..i put down a few of my ideas of how i could compare LOVE to chilli..

  1. Being in love is like eating chilli, too much chilli can be painfull, just like love. But eventhough I know it might hurt,I still want to be inlove.
  2. Loving you is like eating chilli, sometimes too much chilli can hurt, just like your love, but eventhough I know I might get hurt, I still want to love you anyway.
  3. Love is hot and spicy like chilli, too much chilli can make you cry, just like love. But eventhough it might hurt for a little while, its wonderful in the end.

Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition means placing 2 variables side by side and contrast or similarity are shown through comparison.
Simply stated, juxtaposition means placing things side-by-side. In art this usually is done with the intention of bringing out a specific quality or creating an effect, particularly when two contrasting or opposing elements are used. The viewer's attention is drawn to the similarities or differences between the elements.
Juxtaposition can be used in different things like writing poetry, art, science and many other different things.
Below is an example of Juxtaposition in poetry
I thoroughly hate loving you.

      Your heart is a perfectly-carved stone;
Set deep into your chest, soft as granite.

      I grip you gently with angels’ claws;
Icy breath scorching your warm, shivering skin.

      Your hard topaz eyes shimmer liquidly;
Evaporating my soul with their numbing heat.

Together we fall upwards, drowning in the very air that whistles past our entwined, separate bodies.

      Your moist lips deliver a dry kiss upon mine;
I can live neither with nor without you, my sweet oxymoron.

You and I;
      A perfect juxtaposition.

Another example of juxtaposition is below

InBeowulf, the poets skillfully use juxtaposition to suggest a subtext that ridicules the Germanic warrior's misplaced love of treasure, the bestiality, futility, and wastefulness of feuding, and, finally, inBeowulf's last fight, the failure and dissolution of the comitatus.
To the Germanic warriors the possession of treasure such as gold, silver, famous swords, and helmets symbolized loyalty, allegiance and protection. The Beowulf poets show the reader that the warriors' value of treasure is misguided by first skillfully mentioning treasure, in detail, at times that make it seem worthless such as burial and death. When discussing Shild's burial, the poet notes that his men "heaped up.....
Juxtaposition of the use of regicide in Shakespeare's Hamlet and Macbeth. "Crowing achievements are best made in cold blood"
Almost everyone uses juxtaposition in their nomal lives with out even realising it.
The best photographers in the world use it, juyst like in the pictures below..

St. Patrick's Cathedral, Manhattan, NYC.

Christmas decorations provide an altered perspective up on the famous shot tower (left) and the steel conical dome of the Melbourne Central shopping complex

Inside of one of the large cathedral in downtown Chicago. Since the church was actually in service, I took this shot from the hallway, which was separated by this avant-guard metal lattice work from the nave. The glass plates of the partition had a horrible orange tint, so I decided to convert the image to grayscale.

People, usually women, use creative juxtapositions of objects, those that could be defined as art or artifact and those designated as commodity, to classify their home as a certain type of space, to identify themselves as certain kinds of people, to push the boundaries of middle-class identity, and to conform to middle-class ideals of home decoration.

To be creative is not a state of mind, we are all born as creative being but as we grow older we tend to pay attention to other aspects of our talents and lives and never really practice and nurture our creativity.I have done a few exercises to sharpen my techniques and i will share them below so that all of you can also practice.

    Exercise 1
    Choose three sets of numbers
    0 Flower
    9 Head
    1 lightning
    8 Rain
    2 ice
    7 Wood
    3 light
    6 Tree
    4 fire
    5 Spider
    5 duck
    4 Root
    6 dog
    3 Mountain
    7 oil
    2 Wind
    8 leave
    1 Rock
    9 fly
    0 water
Then after look at the list of words above and choose a set of words which represents the numbers.
Then make a sentence, how ever simple it might be with the words u chose, each sentence for 1 set of words you chose..
    My set of words
    01-fly and water
: I saw a beautiful bird fly by and it was as blue as water..
    05-fly and root
: The naughty fly was caught by the big root..
    10-flower and head
: The boy put the pretty flower on the girl's head
Then after u have written your sentences, draw an illustration of your sentence.
The next step is, put together the 2words you chose to make 1 word…
    1.fly+water = flywater
    2.fly+root=flyroot
    3.flower+head=flowerhead
Then draw a picture of the words you just made to illustrate what the object u just named would look like. below are my illustrations
The next step is, put together the 2words you chose to make 1 word…
    1.fly+water = flywater
    2.fly+root=flyroot
    3.flower+head=flowerhead
Then draw a picture of the words you just made to illustrate what the object u just named would look like.

associated mind mapping

There are two types of mind mapping...my last post was about the logical mind mapping..this new post is about the associated mind mapping..Associated mind mapping is very different from the logical mind mapping because unlike in logical mind mapping, where you stick to the stereo types, in associated mind mapping you try to get away from the stereo types, you try to come up with ideas which don't link to that topic what so ever...Logical mind mapping helps u recall a memory by using either diagrams, pictures or certain words, while associated mind mapping help u come up with new ideas..
In my last lesson we where using the words MORTAR and PESTLE to try and come up with ideas which dont really have any relation to the original use of a mortar and pestle. For those who do not know what a Mortar and pestle are, here is a picture below

Mortar and pestle is used to grind food,or spices.

The three ideas that i came up with for the use of a mortar and pestle are :

Marrige: It can be used as bride's price from the groom's family to the bride's family, the mortar will be given to the bride's father and the pestle will be given to the bride's mother.
Pain: it could be used by prison guards as a torturing tool for the prisoners. The mortar will be put on the prisoner's mouth so that no one will hear them screaming and the pestle will be used to hit the prisoner on the fingers to get information out of them.
Hair: It could be used as hair care products. The mortar will be used to store the hair cream and the pestle will be used to brush down the hair..

Those are my three crazy ideas,i could go on and on for ever but id rather hear what your ideas are...please share with me on the comments...
